Madagascar May - October 2012

I spent five months from 15 May 2012 - 17 October 2012 living and working in Madagascar to deliver research for my Master of Science by Research (M-Res) degree in Biodiversity Management. In doing so, I used a mixed-methods approach (incorporating household questionnaires, key informant interviews and seasonal calendar exercises) to explore the role of mangrove forests in sustaining the livelihoods of local beneficiaries in two case study sites along the north east coast of the island. I also conducted ecological surveys to determine the effect that local use was having on neighbouring mangrove condition.
